Story of Drone Buddy

Drone Buddy was developed by Mark Zhong. A mobile app developer who lives in New York. He used to fly his Phantom 2 around New York City, his local drone flying site was at Flushing Corona Park in Queens. He crashed his drone due to heavy wind at Long Island shore bank back in 2014. So it inspired him to build the drone buddy app to help drone pilots fly drones safely. He started with the iOS version first and launched Drone Buddy first version in May 2015. At the beginning, Drone Buddy mainly had only one feature which is current wind speed at the home page. Later on, Mark added no fly zone map to the app. Drone Buddy no fly zone map contains over 62000+ airports data around the world, it also has US national Park and Flight restriction map data. He also added wind speed forecasts to Drone Buddy. Throughout the years, Mark continues to maintain and add new features to the app. In 2018, Drone Buddy launched its android version in Google Play Store. In 2021, Drone Buddy launched a crowd sourced map to let users submit good drone flying sites. Today Drone Buddy is a very popular app in the drone community and constantly updated and improved by Mark.
